EXPLANATION OF POEM- "THE VIOLET" BY- JANE TAYLOR

                                              The Violet - Jane Taylor

                                                       Down in a green and shady bed,
                                                              A modest violet grew,
                                                      Its stalk was bent, it hung its head,
                                                              As if to hide from view.
And yet it was a lovely flower,
                                                            Its colours bright and fair;
                                                     It might have graced a rosy bower,
                                                             Instead of hiding there.

                                                 Yet there it was content to bloom,
                                                        In modest tints arrayed,
                                               And there diffused its sweet perfume,
                                                        Within the silent shade.

                                                          Then let me to the valley go,
                                                            This pretty flower to see;
                                                          That I may also learn to grow
                                                              In sweet humility.

CENTRAL THEME OF THE POEM " THE VIOLET"

In the poem "The Violet", Jane Taylor talks about a beautiful flower which is The Violet, itself. She tells about the flower that whether it has grown in a green , shady place it is yet more beautiful than a rose. According to the poetess the flower is so beautiful that it can grow inside the bower of Roses but it has chosen a place where it can hide itself. This shows the simplicity and the modesty of the Violet. If we see the deep meaning of the poem, the poetess wants us to inherit the qualities of the flower, which is to be modest at the stage of success and not to be arrogant.

SUMMARY OF THE THE POEM "THE VIOLET" (stanza - wise)

The poem "the Violet" which is written by "Jane Taylor" is a very beautiful poem with simple words and high thoughts which  shows us, 'the modesty within beauty'.

In the first stanza of the poem the poetess was walking down a green valley and saw a beautiful Violet flower in that green field within the bushes. The flower was so beautiful that it attracted the sight of the poet but at the same time it (flower) was so down to earth, shy, timid that it had hung it's head down to hide from everyone's view.

In the second stanza the poetess had described the beauty of the violet. He said that the flower was very lovely to look at. It has very bright and fair color. It was too beautiful that it could have grown in the garden between beautiful roses instead of hiding in place like this.

In the third stanza the poetess added some words to the flower's  beauty. She explained that how it became more beautiful after it had grown to its full. In the grown up stage now the Violet was spreading a mesmerizing fragrance all over the place. It had done this all so silently, without showing everyone it's existence. This shows us the real quality of the alluring Violet, that how modest it was.

In the fourth stanza the poetess sums up by asking to go to the green valley just not to see but also to learn some good qualities from that attractive flower. She said that now she would go to the green shady place to see that pretty flower and would also learn from the flower its sweet humility.

When we see the poem we observe that in the whole of it the poetess describes the beauty of the Violet with the quality of being shy and modest at the same time. The poetess wants us to learn to be modest at every stage of life, not only at the time of need but at the time of the success as well.

RHYME SCHEME
