Noun's Behaviour( part-1)
Behaviour of Nouns To study the behaviour of Nouns, they should be put in following groups: Group 1- this group includes those nouns nouns which are always used in plurals. A list of such now is given below; Riches, Premises, Spectacles, Bowels, Valuables, Proceeds, Alms, Billiards, Movables, Wages, Annals, Measles, Trousers, Goods, Shocks, Fetters, Shorts, Pantaloons Tidings ,Mumps, Eatables, Scissors, Stockings Surroundings, Breeches , Tongs. Examples- A) Riches have wings. Riches in the above sentence means ‘wealth' and not ‘ many rich men'. The word ‘Riches' has its independent existence and is always used in plural. So , we have used a plural verb ( have) with it. :-) Likewise we always say; B) Give me a pair of scissors . C) My Spectacles have been broken. Group 2- This group includes those nouns that look like plural, but are used in the singular.
